mail Marketing Tips for Everyone
Lets face it – everyone is short on time and heavy on debt. This is why we put together this ultra-concise email marketing guide that anyone can use to help save them time and make them money.
Before we begin, lets first establish one thing: According to seasoned marketers, if you aren’t focusing on “clickable” content, you are throwing your money away. That said…lets start!
Tip 1: Don’t be afraid to be personal
Nowadays people are turned off by corporate-type messaging. The data is clear – it pays to be authentic. So, keep in mind that you are always better off talking with as opposed to talking at.
Besides – you want loyal customers, friends and connections (relationships) as a result of your communications…not plasticky numbers.
Tip 2: Use rich imagery
Images offer visual intrigue. People process images much faster than they read text. Images help keep eyes on the page and provide a little context for your message.
No doubt about it – images capture one’s attention. In this fast-paced World, you need tools that will help you and your message stand out. Graphics are a go-tool method to do just that.
A big however: Don’t be crazy. Make sure your images are cropped and optimized for email before you send it out. You wouldn’t want the rumor circulating that you were trying to email a loaf of bread do you?
Tip 3: Present to a 5-Year Old
Keep those paragraphs fascinating and by all means – only one subject per paragraph or else!
Why not punch it up with a single line of exclamation?!
Pictures, emojis…whatever it takes to stand out so that they can pause their skimming and stand up and take notice.
Have their attention already…great! Your messaging should have an “IFTT” – if this then that matter of factness to it. Present with the end in mind!
Tip 4: Focus on precision
While long copy has its place…email readers tend to require short, but ultra-concise messaging to get and keep their attention. Paragraphs can no longer be up to four sentences. Focus on two to three with punctuation, emojis – basically anything that will “wake” them up.
Tip 5: Hit them where it hurts. AKA: Address their pain points
In the shortest, but most to the point messaging…you must present their problem and YOUR heroic solution. Plain and simple.
Tip 6: Keep mobile top of mind
At least half of all email is read from a hand-held device. What does that tell you? Yes – we must format our emails with the mobile reader in mind. This means responsive formatting so that it displays well on all devices and just say not to “War and Peace” formatting, or else!
Tip 7: Be click-baity, but don’t be click-baity
You need to grab their attention, but there’s a fine line between good copy and click-baity titles. You must know your audience, therefore – their tolerance of headers that might “toe the line”. Either way – always remember that people are at best…”skimming” until something captures their attention!
Tip 8: Be bold
Don’t get lost in the white noise…don’t fade into obscurity, don’t…OK, you get the point. Formulate EVERYTHING with one thing in mind: YOU are the authority. No one is the wiser and if they are – they aren’t going to book you on Jerry Springer to out you for being a fraud.
Once again – think with the end in mind. You want a more loyal following…more leads and sales – you cannot appear desperate. Your messaging therefore must resonate with them in the sense that feel “hey…this company is pretty bad-ass and they are inviting me this Friday for a wine & cheese event – for sure I’m going!”.
When in doubt…inspire!
Tip 9: Features don’t mean squat
People really don’t like to be sold to. Also…they don’t care about your illustrious features. The simply want a convenience to happen in their life that’s so miraculous that it rains their favorite thing. Can you do that? No? Don’t worry – you’re not alone.
Think long and hard about what the end result benefit you or your product will provide to your audience. Now…for an example:
“THROUGH THE MIRACLE OF AI, XYZ PRODUCT WILL MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER” – WRONG!
“Since 2012 XYZ Product has been giving Entrepreneurs hours back to their schedule. Click to see how!“ – RIGHT!
Tip 10: Measure twice, cut…
You should never allow your strategy to become stagnant. The audience will continue to change, and your competition will grow. So, you will need to remain agile.
How on Earth are you going to know what’s working or not if you don’t look at the data? How about A/B testing? It all comes together when you get a 5-D view of what’s going on. Metrics/reports will do exactly that.
Put it this way: In the beginning there was strategy. In the middle there was automation. Along the way there was monitoring. Then there was A/B testing. Conversion became the baby and reporting is the parent. Understand?
You have the knowledge…you have the tools…then what are you waiting for?
